Gretchen Hanson, the chef/owner of Hobos Restaurant downtown, kicks off a Thirty Day Whole Body Health Program next month.
“I am going to be starting a 30 day program for people that want to feel better, get healthy and lose weight involving cooking classes, a detox from processed foods and an all around food overhaul,” says Chef Gretchen. ”The program includes 6 cooking classes (with eating!), one on one help time, and lifestyle coaching.”
October’s running is full, but she’s taking reservations for the next…and tell her you heard about it on Rehoboth in My Pocket for a discount!
Hobos is organic, clean, and green – and local. And health-wise, Gretchen puts her money where her mouth is – just take one look at her and you’ll happily do whatever she tells you

My most and least favorite question these days is: “Is there any way I can see your app online? I don’t have an iPhone.”
It’s my most favorite because someone wants to see our Rehoboth in My Pocket travel guide/iPhone app!
It’s my least favorite because, without an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, you can’t.
So we started “No iPhone Fridays.” Each Friday, we’ll post one of the reviews from the app here on the website. It’s our way of inviting everyone in, once a week, for free.
We hope you like it!

This week: Big Fish Grill. Why? Because if my mom were still alive for Mother’s Day, this is where I’d take her. My mom was a D.C. girl who knew her crab cakes. So does Big Fish Grill. I think they would have liked each other.
Lines out the door in the summer, but don’t let that stop you. Just bring a good book, and maybe a lawn chair. Big Fish Grill is an extremely popular place – same owners as Summer House (another line-out-the-door place) and they don’t take reservations.
Several big, bright dining rooms with lots of wood, mounted marlin overhead, tuna and barracuda and smaller fry on the walls, and a fair amount of noise bouncing around.
Voted Best Appetizer, Best Crab Cake, AND Best Dessert in Delaware Today’s 2009 “Best of Delaware,” there’s much gastronomic happiness here. Seafood is the specialty, of course, with most entrees under $20, including a big choice of seafood pastas and fried platters, plus daily specials offering up the fresh fish choices.
Carnivores have a few choices, such as pork chops, roasted chicken, and a couple of steaks, and kudos to these guys for doing their best to cater to the allergic among us: specialty menus offer entrees free from dairy, egg, garlic, nuts, or shellfish, as well as gluten.
A Little Fish menu for kids ranging from $5.50 for pasta or meatloaf to $9.95 for tuna (gotta love a tuna-eating toddler), and that includes a scoop of vanilla or cinnamon ice cream.
Happy hour at the bar Monday-Friday 5-7 and Sunday 4-6, with $2.50 domestic beers and other cheap-o beverages, plus a nice selection of $4 appetizers, including fried oysters and four sliders – pulled pork or cheeseburger.
Big Fish Grill 4117 Highway One, 302-227-FISH. http://bigfishgrill.com/ No reservations. FYI: The Big Fish Grill is serving lunch from 10-3 and dinner from 3-9 on Mother’s Day.View "No iPhone Friday: Crab cakes like Mom’s at Big Fish Grill" on its own page.

The Rehoboth Beach Museum is offering a special reduced admission AND a treat for the kiddies this weekend, from Friday April 2 through Sunday April 4.
A group of up to two adults and two children can get in for just $5, and each child will receive an egg with candy inside. Such a deal! All children ages 12 and under are free, but must be accompanied by an adult.
The special rate honors a Rehoboth Beach tradition from the days when the Cape Henlopen Lighthouse was still standing. Until it fell into the sea in 1926, families would trek to the lighthouse, bringing picnic lunches and rolling eggs down the Great Dune. Come see a replica of the lighthouse, and learn about the boardwalk and shipwrecks and view vintage bathing suits and post cards on display.
The museum is located at 511 Rehoboth Avenue, near the traffic circle with the lighthouse and the Chamber of Commerce Vistors Center. Parking is free. Museum hours are Friday, 10-4, Saturday and Sunday 11-3. Call 227-7310 for information.
And check out the SWAG – two for one adult pricing all month, for Rehoboth in My Pocket readers!

I’ve been hearing about the Women & Wine Club for a while, and finally got the complete scoop from Molly King. Molly tells me that the Club was started in January of 2008, when Lupo di Mare partnered with Michelle Souza, from Southern Wine & Spirits, and local charity Rehoboth Wears Red For Women, to create a women-only, four-course wine pairing for less than $40.
The first year, the club focused on Italian wines, starting in the Tre Venezie region to the north, and then worked their way south. This year, they’re trying out a different varietal each month.
The Club usually meets monthly on a Tuesday from October – May. The next gathering is Tuesday, April 13th at Lupo di Mare, where sauvignon blancs will star. Attendees can purchase raffle tickets for great door prizes, and all of the raffle money, plus $5 from each reservation, goes to a charity. The donation averages around $650 a month, and this month the beneficiary will be Children & Families First.
The events always sell out, so if you’re interested, get in touch with Molly at molly@sodelconcepts.com.
(And if you like wine – and who doesn’t? – you may want to sign up for blog updates from our new website, www.VaWineInMyPocket.com. Rick and I are developing a second iPhone App, called Virginia Wine in My Pocket, a travel guide to Virginia’s wine country, and we’ll be blogging about our “150 Wineries in 150 Days” tour this summer. Apple is now in possession of our Rehoboth In My Pocket iPhone app content! The last hurdle before we go live. Finally.
So now that the adrenaline rush of creating our first app is starting to fade, the doubts are beginning to creep in…
…What if I misspelled a really obvious word (like calling Hobos “Hobo’s” a dozen times before noticing there was no apostrophe…)?
…What if the entries are too downtown-heavy (they are) and I didn’t include enough from up on Route 1 (I didn’t)?
…What if I unintentionally hurt someone’s feelings (I will. It happens; get over it, self. It’s a travel guide not a love letter, duh.)?
Guess that’s what UPDATES are for

Another small step for a man … Tonight I (finally!) finished selecting and uploading a collection of photos from “Snowmageddon” in Rehoboth Beach. If you have time and interest, check out the full photo gallery at www.RickCollierImagery.com.
If you don’t have time for the whole 120+ images, here’s a small sample:
This photo collection has been in the works since the storm, but got delayed a few weeks because I was working on getting web sites up (including both this site and RickCollierImagery). I would not normally post as many shots as I did for this blizzard, but I decided to make a larger selection available for this event since the storm was historic. There are over 120 photos in the full gallery; I really wanted to include as much as I could for everybody.
As one might expect, most of these shots were taken Sunday morning when the sun came out to illuminate the town in its new and unforgettable, beautiful, blinding white mantle. There are also a bunch of shots actually taken while the snow was falling, when we left our house to stumble about in the storm. (Our family sudden-onset cabin-fever syndrome predictably strikes almost immediately when the first snowflake hits atmosphere, inevitably compelling us to leave wherever we are to trek, cold and wet, through every snowfall. Usually more than once. Sometimes reasonably interesting photos result.)
Here’s another link to the full “Rehoboth Snowmageddon” gallery at www.RickCollierImagery.com.
Hope you enjoy!
